ATCT Success Stories
In the framework of South-South and Triangular Cooperation for the benefit of developing countries, in particular, Arab and African countries, the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) has organized, in the course of the last decade, trainings for approximately 2176 African and Arab executives, among whom 192 were trained within the Islamic Development Bank cooperation program, in various fields such as basic health, reproductive health, agriculture, fishery, vocational training, communications, human resources management, publishing and distributing textbooks, environment, construction, public works, education, public administration and governance.
Among the most important programs and projects that have been implemented:
Two-year project in the area of combating maternal and infant mortality in the Province of Kolo, Niger, with the financial support of the French Development Agency. This project included training of Nigerian physicians by Tunisian experts and the set up of mobile medical units.
Reproductive health project implemented by two Tunisian experts in Dosso, Niger, and funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Training courses on resistance to HIV and eye diseases, funded by the Islamic Development Bank
61 curable blindness campaigns in various African countries including Mauritania , Niger, Mali, Chad, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon , Comoros Islands , Guinea etc., during which 21266 surgical operations , 30712 medical consultation and 7 training courses were carried out by 354 Tunisian ophthalmologists and senior technicians. These campaigns were organized within the framework of the Islamic Development Bank cooperation program, Nadi Elbassar and the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation.
Four (4) education counselors have implemented a two-year project to improve Arabic and French teaching quality in Niger, with the financial support of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
Training courses in the field of Communication between languages and the controversy of communication and international policies in the area of basic education, assessment of teaching achievements and preparation of textbooks, etc.
Development of curriculum materials and textbooks in Djibouti by Tunisian experts, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the French Development Agency.
A training on “Women, Population and Development Promotion” for the benefit of executives from Benin, organized in cooperation with the Center for Research, Studies, Documentation and Information on Women “CREDIF” in addition to study visits carried out by approximately a hundred (100) officials and executives from African countries.
Establishment of the Solidarity Fund of Mali (EMS) and the Solidarity Bank of Mali (BMS) by Tunisian experts with the support of Luxembourg.
Training courses in Tunisia in the field of regional development and decentralization for the benefit of African countries and in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank.
Training courses in collaboration with Tunisian institutions such as the Arid Zones Institute (IRA), the Agricultural Research Institute of Tunis (INRAT), Tunis International Center for Environmental Technologies (CITET) and the National Institute of Research in Rural Engineering, Water and Forests ( INRGREF) for the benefit of different African countries in the fields of installation of windbreaks in arid and semiarid zones, management of human resources, fight against desertification, environmental protection and climate risks, solid waste management and irrigation, funded by various partners and donors such as the Islamic Development Bank.
Joint programs between the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) allowed identifying the needs of these countries particularly in the field of water management.
A Three-year project funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) during which fishery and marine engineering experts, assisted capacity building of the Fisheries Training School of Nouadhibou (Mauritania).
A five-year program implemented by the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation, with the support of the National School of Sciences and Sea Technology and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency to set up an African-Japanese Institute for Ocean Science and Technology (AJIOST). This program aimed at consolidating network of research labs in sea science in different African countries.
A project for the benefit of Mauritania implemented in two phases, was funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the Fund for Social Development (FADES/FSD) and the World Bank. 32 Tunisian experts were dispatched to set up vocational training centers in different fields so as to involve Mauritanian youth in professional life, and provide Assistance in building training capacity of Mauritanian trainers in Tunisia
Short and medium term technical assistance missions were carried out by Tunisians experts in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal to support the vocational training and employment sector in these countries
Contribution of Tunisian experts to the establishment of the Court of Auditors in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the training of 30 Mauritanian judges in Tunisia, with the support of the German international Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
A five year project in public finance implemented for the benefit of 130 African executives and co-funded by the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation, the Ministry of Finance, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and the African Development Bank.
A pilot project in Niger consisting in the creation of a marketing institution to promote agricultural exports, implemented by the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT), Tunisia Export Center (CEPEX), the Canadian International Development Agency (ACDI) and the Training and Management Company (SOFEG) for Canada.
Training courses for the benefit of a number of Maghreb, Arab and African countries in the fields of small and medium sized businesses funding, trade, export promotion and privatization techniques, supported financially by the Islamic Development Bank.
Training of executives from the Gabonese National Investment Promotion Agency (ANPI Gabon) in the field of development of local and foreign investments in cooperation with Tunisian private and public institutions and the support of the Arab Fund for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).
Technical assistance project funded by the Arab Fund for Economic Development (FADES) and implemented by experts from the Tunisian Ministry of Telecommunication Technologies to set up public telephone centrals, telex and urban network in Nouakchott (Mauritania) and train Mauritanian executives in this field.
Training of Djibouti executives in Tunisian telecommunication institutions, within a program of capacity building assistance.
Partnership project between the Universal Postal Union and the Tunisian Post Office to set up an online training platform for the benefit of African and Arab countries.
Training courses for the benefit of executives from Arab and African French speaking countries within the frame of a program supported by the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), aiming basically to promote the publication and distribution sector and, in particular, textbooks, in addition to the fact that it enabled some trainees to set up their own business, which represents a very crucial factor in job creation in developing countries.
